2011 Juniata County Fair ART SHOW

The Juniata County Fair Art Show is under way in Port Royal. Over 400 pieces have been entered in the art show that runs until Sunday, September 11, 2011. The JCAC facilitated the successful show again this year.


2011 Best of Show Winners:
The photography Best of Show was awarded to Linda Geissinger, Mifflintown. She is pictured with photography judge Sarah Book. Linda's photography titled "Mother and Daddy's Hands" is a sephia photo showing her 90 and 91 year old parent's hands resting on a Bible.

The art Best of Show ribbon was awarded to Carol Gehr, McAlisterville by art judge Sharon Jenne. Carol's mixed media titled "Wake Up" consists entirely of paper. The only paint she used was to dot white snow on the tree branches.

Professional Showcase Best of Category Winner:
Dwight Kirkland pictured with Art Judge: Sharon Jenne. This is one painting in a series of paintings Dwight is creating about interesting people from Lewistown. The painting is of Jim Tunnal, Director of the Chamber of Commerce Visitors Bureau in Lewistown. The background is a train car located in Lewistown.

Juniata County Fair Art Show

The JCAC reminds everyone to enter their artwork and photography on Thursday, September 1, 3-8:00pm at the Juniata County Fair. The fair is open September 3 - 10. Artwork and photography will be judged on Friday evening, September 2, 6:30pm. Their will be a critique time after the judging.

2011 Planter Palooza has begun!


Drawing Together the Community
and Businesses Through the Arts.
2011 Mifflintown Planter Palooza has begun! Check out the 17 planters painted by local artists and craft persons. They are on display along the sidewalks of Mifflintown, PA. This event was sponsored by the Juniata Cultural Arts Committee (JCAC) and Hunters Run Nursery, Port Royal.

On June 3rd, the JCAC along with Maggie Shafferman of Hunters Run Nursery, planted and delivered 17 planters to the sidewalks of downtown Mifflintown. The planters will be on display until September 1. They will then be moved to the Juniata County Fair, Port Royal. The planters will be auctioned at the fair on Saturday, September 10. Proceeds will benefit the Juniata County Library.

Mifflintown is adorned with the beautiful planters created by talented artists and craft persons.


All of the following artists and craft persons were awarded with the honor of having their artwork selected by the JCAC for the 2011 Planter Palooza. Top honors were given to:

The JCAC gathered on Friday, June 3rd to plant and deliver the beautiful painted planters to the sidewalks of Mifflintown.
After the planters were returned to Hunters Run Nursery, they were sealed for outdoor protection. After they dried, the JCAC met to fill the planters with plants that complimented each painted planter. Hunters Run Nursery had a great selection of plants to choose from. The planters will look even more gorgeous as the plants grow.

Thank you to all the artists and craft persons who entered our first Planter Palooza event to be held this summer in Mifflintown, PA.
The winners have been notified and are in the process of picking up their planters this week from Hunters Run Nursery, Port Royal. James Gichner is shown picking up his planter Wednesday morning. The title of his planter design will be "Big and Little Birds". Planters will be returned to Hunters Run and the JCAC by May 31.

Planter Palooza!!




The Juniata Cultural Arts Committee (JCAC), together with Hunters Run Nursery, presents the first Planter Palooza event for Mifflintown, Juniata County. Artists and crafts persons may submit drawings and twenty will be selected to decorate flower planters that will adorn the sidewalks of Mifflintown from June to September. This event is open to the public, and you may receive an entry application at the JCAC website. The goal of the Planter Palooza is to draw together the community and businesses through the arts.

The mission of the JCAC is to give local artists and crafts persons an opportunity to perform and exhibit their talents. The JCAC presents exciting and interesting cultural occasions within the county and involves county-wide interest in their productions. The JCAC welcomes the public to attend their meetings held on the 1st Monday of every month in the meeting room of the Juniata County Library at 6:30pm.
Hunter’s Run Nursery

JCAC Meetings are First Monday of the Month

You are invited to attend the Juniata Cultural Arts Committee meetings held the first Monday of the month in the Juniata County Library meeting room, 6:30 p.m.

The mission of the Juniata Cultural Arts Committee is to give local artists and crafts persons an opportunity to perform and exhibit their talents. The JCAC presents exciting and interesting cultural occasions within the county and involves county-wide interest in their productions.

The committee is always looking for volunteers and new ideas.

New Year Meeting

The JCAC met on Monday evening, January 3 to plan the new year. We're excited about planning a summer art event and supporting a youth art club in the county. Look for more information soon.
